This chart records data about the application number of the national civil servant examination. It shows a visible growth, from 87 thousand people in 2003 to 1. 46 million people in 2010, a 16 times increase within 8 years.
The huge increase indicates the raging passion of young people for the job opportunity as a civil servant. The incentive behind the crazy chase is steadiness, generous wage and great welfare. This upward trend is predictable since steadiness is traditionally highly valued by Chinese people and it becomes more attractive when the pressure is unbearably huge. It is natural for people to pursue easy and rich life. However, there is cost for benefits. The routine life dulls the ambitious souls, reducing young people to the aged people's mental state. Worse still, it is detrimental for the nation that so many young talents choose a steady job rather than a creative one. Lack of creation will mean failure to compete with foreign countries in economic and cultural force.
A meaningful life should be colorful and challenging. As young people, we can try to carve out the career in the competitive market and delay the pursuit of steadiness.
