When I was about 12 years old, I had an enemy, a girl who liked to point out my shortcomings. Sometimes she said I was thin. Sometimes she said I was a tomboy. Sometimes she said I wasn't a good student, I talked too loud, and so on. I tried to put up with her as long as I could. At last, I ran to my mother with tears in my eyes.
My mom listened to me quietly, and then she asked,“Are the things she said true or not? Bob, didn't you ever wonder what you're really like? Go and make a list of everything she said and mark the points that are true. Pay no attention to the other things she said.”
I did as my mother told me and to my surprise, I discovered that about half the things were true. For the first time in my life I got a fairly clear picture of myself.
I brought the list back to my mother. She refused to take it.“That's just for you,”she said.“You know better than anyone else the truth about yourself. You've got to learn to listen, but don't shut your ears in anger or hurt. When something said about you is true, you'll find it helpful." That's the best advice I ever had.(1)、Why did the author dislike the girl?
