What impact did the 1812 war between the United States and Britain have on the development of the United States?
The war had a great impact on the development of the United States. In the first place, the war made people realize the importance of a strong national government. Secondly, the war strengthened the feeling of national unity and patriotism. Once again, the states were fighting side by side for a common goal. This feeling of nationalism was particularly strong in the western part of the United States. Thirdly, for almost 10 years after the war, the Americans turned their attention to the development of the western part of the continent. Fourthly, it made both Britain and the United States realize that their disputes should be solved through negotiation. A shaky peace in 1814 turned into a lasting peace between the two countries.
